Why SEO?

I have opted to include an SEO section quite simply because there are a lot of people writing articles for SEO purposes. Since I’m covering the more traditional career paths in my Career Plans section, I thought I would make a separate section for this relatively new (I’m much older than the internet!) means to make a living with your articles.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It is a term that is used to refer to techniques webmaster’s use to promote their web pages in a way that makes their page rank higher when certain “keywords” they target are searched for in the big search engines (google, yahoo, etc..).

Why should I care?

For a long time I had no clue what SEO was about. I had no websites of my own, so I didn’t really need to know. As I began to make the transition from writing for other people’s websites to my own, I discovered that there are tons of people writing articles to promote their websites and get a higher page ranking on the search engines. I found this intriguing as I had been writing articles for years for other people, many of whom were probably using my articles for that very purpose.

Obviously, since I was taking the time to start a website, I wanted to at least have somebody look at it. With my experience at writing articles, I thought it would be a breeze. Honestly, it kind of was a breeze. That’s not to say that I had no problems getting started. In the beginning it was very frustrating and time consuming. There is definitely a learning curve, and it took time to figure out the nuances. Once I had my first site up and running, each site afterwards became easier and easier to do.

Looking back, I think the biggest hang ups, and what probably causes many people to quit trying, is not knowing what people and what companies can be trusted. I am hopeful that this section of my website will alleviate some of those problems for you. If you are going to try to make money writing articles this way, and I suggest you do it at least part time, then you are going to need a team. After a couple years of my time and a few dollars wasted (I did lose money at first, but you can minimize that by paying attention to my mistakes), I think I have a really good team. Now you can avoid the time and money waste I went through to get them.

Read through the articles in this section if this sounds good to you! Good luck!
